Nestled just outside Lisbon, Quinta do Torneiro is one of Portugal’s most enchanting wedding venues, where history and romance blend seamlessly. Built in the 18th century, this estate combines timeless architecture with lush gardens and elegant ballrooms, creating the perfect backdrop for destination weddings in Portugal.
As a Lisbon wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many love stories here over the years. My partnership with Lisbon Wedding Planners has been a constant source of joy and creativity, allowing me to document countless celebrations at Quinta do Torneiro. Working alongside their team always ensures that every detail—from the décor to the flow of the day—comes together effortlessly, giving couples the wedding of their dreams.
On Rachael and Aaron’s wedding day, I began documenting the story about two hours before the ceremony, starting with the bride’s preparations. While Aaron got ready at another location, he joined us at the venue in time for some solo portraits and family photos before the festivities began. For their celebration, the couple chose a photography collection with one photographer for 10 hours of coverage, the perfect fit to capture the essence of their day from start to finish.
Authentic Storytelling with Editorial Flair
Capturing light, feelings & moments and all the things in between.
If you’re planning a wedding at Quinta do Torneiro in Lisbon and looking for a Portugal wedding photographer to tell your story with a mix of candid, editorial, and romantic imagery, I’d love to hear from you. You can also explore more love stories on my wedding blog.
The Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place in the gardens of Quinta do Torneiro, beneath centuries-old trees that created the most romantic natural canopy. Flowing white fabrics and delicate blue and white florals framed the altar, echoing the color palette of the bridal party’s dresses.
From the very first moments, the emotion was palpable. Rachael’s smile as she looked at Aaron said it all, while Aaron’s joy and expressive reactions brought warmth and laughter to everyone present. Surrounded by family and friends, their vows felt deeply personal, filled with sincerity and tenderness.
A particularly moving moment was when their immediate family gathered around them to read the Blessing of the Hands. This heartfelt gesture added layers of meaning to the ceremony, symbolizing the strength of their bond and the loving support of those closest to them.
Music and readings from loved ones added even more intimacy to the celebration, and the entire atmosphere was a perfect reflection of who they are as a couple—authentic, joyful, and deeply in love.
One of my favorite moments to capture was their first kiss under the sweeping branches of the ancient tree, a timeless image that perfectly symbolizes their union. The recessional, hand in hand and beaming with happiness, was the perfect ending to a heartfelt ceremony and the beginning of the festivities ahead.
✨ One of the most touching moments of the day was when Rachael and Aaron’s immediate family gathered around them to read the “Blessing of the Hands.” Surrounded by love, they listened as words of support and unity were spoken, a reminder that these hands will build their future together. It was a gesture that brought both tears and smiles, sealing the ceremony with profound meaning. ✨
Couple Portraits Throughout the Day
For Rachael and Aaron, it was important to keep the focus of the day on celebrating with their loved ones. To make sure of that, we divided their portraits into short sessions spread across different moments of the wedding.
The first took place while guests were entering the dining room, giving the couple a quiet moment together before the reception began. Later, during the meal, we slipped away to catch the golden glow of sunset—the most magical light for romantic portraits. Finally, just before my departure, we added one last, very short session to capture the joy and energy of the evening.
From Engagement to Wedding Day: The Key to Natural and Authentic Photos
Because we had already spent time together during their engagement session at Monserrate Palace two days earlier, Rachael and Aaron felt completely at ease in front of the camera. This connection made all the difference: instead of posed or forced images, their portraits are filled with authenticity, laughter, and a deep sense of intimacy. I always recommend an engagement session for this very reason—it allows couples to fully enjoy the wedding day, feeling comfortable and natural while celebrating their love.
Cake Cutting Celebration at Quinta do Torneiro
As the evening set in, Rachael and Aaron gathered their loved ones in the gardens of Quinta do Torneiro for the cake cutting, a tradition that always brings joy and laughter. Surrounded by sparklers and cheers, the couple shared sweet moments that reflected the energy of the entire day: playful, romantic, and full of love.
The elegant white cake, adorned with fresh florals, was the perfect centerpiece against the backdrop of the historic estate. From feeding each other bites to toasting with champagne, every gesture was filled with fun and spontaneity, creating images that feel timeless yet full of life.
These are the kinds of moments that define my work as a Portugal wedding photographer—capturing not only the traditions but also the authenticity of how each couple chooses to celebrate. For Rachael and Aaron, the cake cutting wasn’t just about the dessert; it was about sharing laughter and joy with everyone around them, sealing the day with an unforgettable celebration.
